A 24-year-old man was arrested today (July 18) in the Benoni CBD for being in possession of drugs valued at R50 000.

The EMPD made the arrest on Bedford Avenue, at 3pm.

“A man suspected of drug dealing was put under surveillance for two days by the EMPD Drug Enforcement after a tip-off was received from concerned members of the community,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago.

“… The metro police’s patience paid off when the suspect was pounced upon and a huge quantity of CAT found on his person.”

The drug CAT, which was in block form in five Ziplock bags, was found.

The street value of the drug is approximately R50 000.

The man was arrested and detained at the Benoni Police Station.

He will be charged with possession and dealing in illicit substances.

He is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (July 19).
