Dagga worth less than R20 leads to man’s arrest off Great North

A man was arrested for being in possession of dagga worth less than R20 in Brentwood Park this morning (June 30).

Police officers, a police helicopter, EMPD and members of the CPF responded to a call for backup from the Benoni Flying Squad, after they saw four suspicious men in a white Mercedes in Northmead.

The flying squad followed the vehicle to the corner of Great North and Celia Nestadt roads, at 10.30am.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the men and vehicle were searched.

Police found a “poke” of dagga in the sock of a 41-year-old man.

He was arrested and charged with being in possession of dagga.

Sekele said the dagga is valued at less than R20.

The other three men were released as they were not in possession of illegal items.

Sekele said a similar car that was pulled over has been used in crimes in Benoni.
