Eight arrested for drunk driving
Eight motorists were arrested for drunk driving on the evening of June 24.
The EMPD conducted an operation from 7pm until midnight, on Kingsway Road, near the N12 highway.
“Drivers who allow the month-end excitement to get the better of them by drinking and driving and by driving recklessly on our public roads prompted the EMPD Freeway Unit to target them,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago.
A 39-year-old female driver was among the eight arrested.
Seven were male drivers aged between 30 and 45.
Dockets of driving under the influence of alcohol were registered against the motorists at the Benoni Police Station.
The arrested drivers were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on June 27.
