Sweet experience at annual cake bake competition

The bakers baked, the people ate, and the annual Benoni City Times Mother's Day Cake Bake Competition marked May 5 as another successful date.

If reading that was a mouthful, you should have seen the cakes that were entered on the day.

Entrants began streaming in from 7am, to place their cakes on display at the Cherrylane Gourmet Café, on 14th Avenue, Northmead.

The cakes were categorised as professional, tarts and tartlets, fun bake and cupcakes.

Entries were judged by Moira Wall, Berry Legg and Xanthe Weissnar, Shawn Govender, Wendy Bernhardt, Stelios Coutsides, Paul Smith, David Wright, Ilse Prinsloo and Cobus Botes, based on presentation, covering and texture, degree of difficulty, creativity, execution of techniques, edible ingredients and taste.

All the cakes looked stunning, which made the decisions of the 10 judges much harder.
