Bad name is not surprising

I refer to the letter from Rob and Dalzie Paterson, published in the City Times, recently.

What a cold, uninformative and unsympathetic response from the police.

We live in a complex near the Paterson’s and were also subjected to an armed robbery just five days after their incident.

The gang’s modus operandi was exactly the same.

We, too, have not had a word from the police in two years.

In nearby Northmead there was a similar robbery a few days later, with the same modus operandi but worse consequences, with the woman occupant being raped.

It is very difficult to accept that the “case was closed” without informing the victims of what the police had done to track the criminals.

We were told by the Forensic Unit that they had good fingerprints from our house.

Were these compared with the fingerprints taken at the Patersons and at the Northmead incident?

If the fingerprints did not belong to anyone with an SA ID, what further action was taken?

If they did match an SA ID what has been done to trace these criminals?

With the police closing the case only three months after the event and not communicating with the victims, it is not surprising that the South African public have no confidence in or respect for our police service.
