DA announces new mayoral candidate

Today (April 19) John Moodey, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng leader, announced and presented the DA's Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate for the 2016 Local Government Elections.

The announcement was made at the Ekurhuleni Council Chambers in Germiston.

Selected by an electoral college, Ghaleb Cachalia was announced as the mayoral candidate.

“I gratefully accept the DA nomination, to run as mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni to bring change to Ekurhuleni,” said Cachalia.

“The time has come for us to once again find our hope and aspiration.

“This is why I stand with the DA and will be campaigning as mayoral candidate to usher in an era of DA government in Ekurhuleni.”

Coming from an African National Congress (ANC) background, Cachalia hopes that through his nomination, he will be able to bring change to the city of Ekurhuleni.

He continued to say that he wanted to bring change that will cut corruption, deliver services and create jobs.

“My vision for the City of Ekurhuleni is an inclusive city, where the people who are struggling find an opportunity in life, where the striving are able to grow and excel and the successful are able to invest and innovate.”

“I am standing as DA mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni because I am committed to change that improves the lives of our people,” Cachalia said.
