Water still wasted

Bev Watt, of Farrarmere, writes:

After receiving the Benoni City Times on March 17, I was excited to read that we have “ambassadors” for saving water.

I phoned the number provided to report a water leak in our road.

I was excited to hear the phone answered within three rings.

I told the polite lady on the other side of the phone that there has been a water leak a couple of houses up the road from me and that it was like a river running past my home.

She gave me a reference number and told me she would try to get someone there the same afternoon or first thing on Friday morning.

Well, that’s where the excitement ended.

No one turned up.

I phoned on Friday afternoon and had the phone put down three times.

Nothing has changed.

Phoned on Monday and had a gentleman answer and when he heard my complaint he duly put the phone down.

I phoned again on Tuesday morning and there is a big water leak in Benoni and she doesn’t know when they will be able to attend to my water leak.

In the article it states “Every Drop Counts”.

I would hate to know how many drops have been wasted with this river running down Spencer Street, Farrarmere.

Nobody cares, but I have to abide by the water restrictions because there is a shortage of water.

What a joke.

Editor’s Note: Watt said the leak was repaired three weeks after she reported the issue.

The municipality confirmed the leak has been repaired.
