UPDATE: CMS employee dies in crash

The late Gerhard Johan van Rooyen will be sorely missed by his colleagues at the Community Monitoring Services (CMS).

On Saturday night (March 26), van Rooyen was responding to a call when he had an accident on the corner of Stokroos and Oak streets in Northmead.

“As we arrived on scene, we saw the CMS vehicle was against a tree,” said ER24 spokesperson Kelly Burchell.

“Sadly, the CMS patrolman had succumbed to his injuries.”

The security company told the City Times that van Rooyen will be remembered for his dedication and approachable manner.

“He worked with CMS for almost a year,” the response stated.

“He recently completed several tactical courses to further advance his skill.”

According to the security company, van Rooyen (39) was a loving husband to his wife Yolandi and a father of three.

His supervisors and colleagues commended him for his reliability and the conscientious manner in which he fulfilled his duty.

On Monday evening (March 28), CMS posted on their Facebook page, extending their condolences to the van Rooyen family.

“He received numerous compliments and praise for his service and dedication and his loss is deeply saddening,” the post said.
