Success for police

Police saw the success of recovering a vehicle three hours after it was stolen from Laerskool Rynfield.

“The EMPD Equestrian Unit members on patrol sighted the hijacked vehicle,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieut Wilfred Kgasago.

“It was abandoned in Tlokwa Street, Daveyton.”

On Thursday morning (March 17), two armed male suspects hijacked a Ford Ranger double cab from a mother who was picking up her child from school.

“The suspects pointed a gun at her and took her car keys,” Benoni police station spokesperson, Lieut Nomsa Sekele said.

“The vehicle was found at 1.40pm intact except for the disassembled dashboard,” Kgasago said.

Sekele said the car had a tracker in it, so Kgasago suspects this was the reason for the disassembled dashboard.

“It is suspected the culprits of this crime were trying to locate the tracking unit of the Ford Ranger,” he said.

“After the formalities were conducted by the forensics team, the vehicle was taken to SAPS Van Ryn Deep in Benoni.”
