Price goes up, but Rudi stays upbeat

The fund for Rudi Burger’s new prosthetic leg has grown to over R23 000.

Members of the public can still donate to the 39-year-old Crystal Park resident, who walks with a crutch, because of the pain caused by the deteriorating prosthetic leg he currently has.

Johan Loubser, owner of Terrace Pharmacy, opened an account at the Rynfield store in December, where anyone can donate funds towards Burger’s new leg, the cost of which was initially set at R56 270.

It has since risen to R59 272.

“With the weak Rand, the price of the leg has gone up by about five per cent since last year,” said Burger.

Burger’s employer, Kobus van der Merwe, said Rynfield Superspar, which he owns, would pay half of the money needed for the prosthetic leg.

Burger supports his wife, Liezel, and their six-year-old daughter, Elzaan, for which he needs his job, but he can no longer perform his duties in the same way he was previously able to.

He said the daily pain has become worse and he can’t wait to lay down his crutches when he receives a new leg.

For more information, or to make a donation, contact Terrace Pharmacy on 011 968 1060, or visit the store at the Terrace Shopping Centre, on Pretoria Road, Rynfield.
