Woman arrested with CAT claims she was en route to rehab

A woman was arrested for being in possession of an illicit substance and driving under the influence of drugs.

The EMPD made the arrest while on a routine patrol in Northmead on Sunday (March 7) morning.

“The EMPD Equestrian Unit members noticed a white VW Golf weaving through traffic and hazardously straddling the solid lines,” said EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago.

“The vehicle was sighted on Fifth Avenue and metro police promptly stopped the vehicle when it reached Fourth Avenue.

“When stopped, the woman driver appeared intoxicated.

“She stopped the vehicle precariously in the middle of the two-way traffic roadway.”

Upon searching the vehicle, police came across a small plastic packet containing the drug “CAT” and a pipe that is normally used to smoke the drug.

“Her pleas that she was on her way to a rehabilitation centre and must not be taken in fell on deaf ears,” said Kgasago.

The 37-year-old suspect was arrested and charged at Benoni Police Station for possession of an illicit substance and driving under the influence of drugs.

She was expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
