Motorists endangering lives at school

“Disgusted and appalled” writes by email:

I sit everyday and wait for my daughter to come out of Benoni High School at the bottom gate on O’Reilly Merry Street.

She always crosses at the pedestrian light, and I am disgusted and appalled at how many people don’t even bother to stop at the this robot when it turns red for the children to cross.

The motorists just keep on going through the red robot, forcing the children to wait!

I have even seen an ignorant idiot hooting and hooting at one child who was crossing on his own.

The minute the boy was out of the car’s way, the driver immediately accelerated and sped through the red robot.

I know for a fact that one child has been hit crossing at this robot and my daughter said two others have also been hit!

This robot has been put there for the use of pedestrians!

Are you ignorant idiots really in so much of a hurry that stopping for less than a minute to let some children cross a street safely is going to ruin your day?

If you are in such a huge rush that you would rather mow down those children than stop for a second (the robot doesn’t take that long to change and the children don’t dawdle) then maybe you should try leaving a bit earlier so you are not in the vicinity of the school at home time, therefore not putting the children in front of an impatient moron who thinks that they’re the only person on the road that has to get anywhere!

For you selfish road users:

The school closes at 2pm.

There will be a lot of children crossing the road at the robot on O’Reilly Merry Street.

The robot will turn red constantly for about half an hour between 2pm and 2.30pm.

If you are an impatient idiot please avoid this area and stop putting our children’s lives in danger.
