The Benoni Country Club is a landmark in this town and should be preserved at all costs, to the extent that every citizen of this town should rise up and shout “Hands off”.
Two decades ago some eagle-eyed developer attempted to hijack the Bunny Park, to build another shopping centre, but there was enough public support to stop the hijacking dead in its tracks.
Developers are large, syndicated entities with huge amounts of money available to them.
My immediate fear is that backhanders are exchanging hands, so that they can get first bite of this land.
I urge the mayor to come forward and put this fear to bed and to give the citizens of this town peace of mind that the Country Club will remain intact.
The Benoni Country Club is NOT for sale, and I urge the citizens of this town to vent their anger in the strongest possible terms, by writing, emailing, calling radio stations and standing in front of the Ekhuruleni offices with placards.
You have been warned, Mr Mayor – convey this message to the developer!
