A man was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle, an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, in Daveyton, on February 9.

This follows the hijacking of a man, at the Checkers Hyper centre, at the intersection of Oos Street and Prince’s Avenue, on February 9, at 2pm.

According to Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele, it is alleged that the victim was being taught to drive a truck around the centre’s premises.

“After the driving session, the victim’s friend left the centre, leaving the victim there,” said Sekele.

“Suddenly, a white Quantum with three men approached him and two men jumped out of the vehicle.”

Sekele said one hijacker, who was wearing a balaclava, pointed a firearm at the victim and ordered him to get out of the car.

“The man tried to grab his phone from the car and he was hit in the face with the firearm,” she said.

“The robbers took off with the victim’s car, laptop, cellphone and wallet.”

Police opened a case of hijacking, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
