Wrestling club celebrates 50 years
Benoni Wrestling Club held their prize-giving for 2015 recently, at the Fourth Air Scout Hall, in Morehill.
The year marked 50 years of the club under the leadership of chairman Hansie Naudé, who has been involved with the club in all that time and who is highly qualified as a referee and official.
The club’s wrestlers made Benoni proud on the mat last year, with Chris Morapeli taking part in the South African Senior Championship in Brakpan and earning provincial colours.
Leo Erasmus (u-15) competed in the Youth South African Championships, in Cape Town, and also earned provincial colours.
Declan Pelser, Ektoras Meyer, Eli Oberholzer and Xander du Toit all earned regional colours at the South African Regional.
The club is situated on the second floor at the Northmead Mall and all youngsters are invited to the club to see what wrestling is all about.
