Fund for Rudi looks brighter
Members of the public still have the chance to support a Crystal Park resident who needs a new prosthetic leg.
Rudi Burger (39) walks with a crutch, as his third artificial leg is already three years old, causing him daily pain.
Johan Loubser, owner of Terrace Pharmacy, opened an account at the Rynfield store in December, where anyone can donate funds towards Burger’s new leg, which will cost R56 270.
The fund has risen to R15 580.
Burger was born with a crooked ankle on his left foot and underwent a series of operations during his childhood and into adulthood.
Eventually, with the possible failure of an upcoming operation looming over him, Burger decided to have his left leg amputated.
Since then he has been helped by Kobus van der Merwe, the owner of the Spar store at which he works, at the Terrace Shopping Centre, as well as by the state and his family.
As Burger supports his wife and their six-year-old daughter, Elzaan, he needs his job, but can no longer perform his duties with the same energy he was previously able to.
Clinton Maritz, owner of Local Connection Real Estate, in Pretoria Road, put in the first R1 000 into the fund in December, and urged other local businesses to do the same.
Loubser followed suit by pledging another R1 000.
Kobus van der Merwe said Rynfield Superspar would pay half of the money needed for Rudi’s leg.
