Twenty injured in two separate accidents

A total of 20 people were injured in two separate accidents in Benoni this morning (January 15).

In the first crash, six people, including four children, were injured on the corner of Bunyan Street and Fourth Avenue. The accident occurred at around 7am.

ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said two light motor vehicles were involved.

One of the cars contained a male driver and four children, aged nine to 14.

The other car contained only one occupant.

All the patients sustained minor injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.

The second accident involved two taxis on the N12, near the Putfontein exit, in which 14 people were hurt.

“ER24 paramedics treated and transported a total of eight patients to Sunshine Hospital for further treatment,” said Rossouw.

“The remaining patients were transported by other medical services to the same hospital.”

The cause of both incidents are still under investigation.

Local authorities were on scene to investigate.
