Woman’s decomposing body found at home

Judging from the smell, police believe a woman may have been strangled several days before her body was discovered, on Tuesday, January 12.

The victim was 48 years old and her body was found in her Brentwood Park home at around 07.15am, by her domestic worker.

“It is alleged that the victim’s domestic worker arrived at her workplace and walked around to the back yard and noticed the bathroom window was open,” said Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Const Zunickha Essakjee.

“She then knocked on the bedroom window but there was no response.

“Furthermore, she noticed the back door was half open, with the keys still hanging on the burglar door.

“She went into the house and found the deceased lying in the bedroom.”

Essakjee added that the house appeared to have been ransacked, yet nothing seemed to be missing.

“The police suspect that the deceased might have been strangled and, from the smell of the body, the incident may have occurred a few days ago,” said Essakjee.

Essakjee said the domestic worker had last seen the deceased on January 5, as she works at the house every Tuesday.

A murder case was opened at the Benoni Police Station and no arrests had been made at the time of publishing.
