Boy struck by car out of the woods

A 19-month-old boy has surprised his family by only requiring a few stitches after he was knocked down by a vehicle while being pushed in his pram this evening.

Rozelle and Renier Blanchè were walking their son along Eva Road, Fairleads when a BMW collided with the pram.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly lost control around a bend and hit Raidon head on.

“You cannot believe it, they got him right from the front,” said the boy’s grandmother, Lientjie Mynhardt.

She said the couple walk along the road every night after their supper, en route to feed ducks at Country View.

After the incident, Rozelle stopped a bakkie driver, jumped on the back and instructed the person to drive to the Netcare Linmed Hospital.

Raidon went into a seizure at the hospital, but now only needs stitches to his arm.

The family thanked those who assisted during the ordeal, including the CPF and a woman who bought the family refreshments while they were at the hospital.

“It is amazing to see how people respond in a situation like this,” said Lientjie.

It is unclear whether the driver of the vehicle has been arrested.

Police had not commented at the time of publishing.
