A new look for Actonville

With the public constantly complaining about the lack of service delivery by the government, recent developments have proved that delivery is a process that requires patience.

“The notion that delivery doesn’t happen is not true, there is just a delay in delivery,” said Ward 29’s Clr Imtiaz Loonat.

The famous Actonville circle has recently been resurfaced and landscaped after many years of existence.

The upgrade of the circle took place about five weeks ago, as one of the many areas in the Actonville area set to receive facelifts.

“The reason for this is to show the community that council is delivering,” said Loonat.

Apart from the circle, Birmingham Road has also been resurfaced, along with the upgrading of parks.

Braai facilities, gym and playground equipment, rubberised basketball pitches and Astro turf have all been installed in different parks within the area.

One park in particular is situated on Kimberley and Montagu streets, and is due to open at the beginning of December.

“Residents will take ownership of the park and ensure that it stays clean; they will also open and lock the park in the mornings and evenings,” said Loonat.

According to the councillor, the refurbishing of flats in Actonville will cost R20-million and is set to take place over the next couple of years, depending on budget allocations.

He mentioned that requests to the council are being processed and all the upgrades taking place are proof of that.

“Ultimately things will be repaired, as long as the budget is available,” he said
