Rising star takes on the pageant stage

Teboho Masango (17) dreams of dominating the modelling world.

With a petite, slim body and a bright smile, it’s no wonder she has been chosen as a top 27 finalist for the Miss Teen Johannesburg Pageant.

The pageant is held annually for young women between the ages of 15 and 19 years.

The winner stands a chance to win a bursary, modelling contract and plenty of beauty hampers.

Miss Teen Johannesburg aims to groom tomorrow’s leaders.

Teboho, who lives in Daveyton, said this is her first major pageant.

“I started modelling when I was 12 years old, with small pageants hosted within the community,” she said.

“I am nervous, because I don’t know what to expect, but I am enjoying this journey.”

The Wordsworth High School pupil’s love for modelling stems from her older sister, Thenjiwe Masango, who has also entered a number of pageants in the past.

“She has always been my inspiration and has always encouraged me to enter various pageants,” said Teboho.

Teboho and her friends are currently working with Sizolwethu Special School, in o, to help raise awareness of mental health and education.

The youngsters aim to remove the stigma surrounding mental health patients’ education.

“We want to encourage parents with children with mental illnesses to enrol their children,” said Teboho.

She hopes her passion for social issues and giving back to her community will set her apart from other contestants.

The Miss Teen Johannesburg finale takes place on Sunday, November 29, in the Johannesburg City Hall.

Teboho needs public support to increase her chances of grabbing the top crown.
