Ekurhuleni provides relief to hailstorm victims

Ekurhuleni Emergency and Disaster Management Services is appealing to businesses, organisations and individuals to assist community members who were affected by the hailstorm on Monday.

In Etwatwa, 387 homes were reported to have had their roofs blown off by strong winds.

So far, only 171 households have received emergency relief with plastics to cover their roofs.

Other affected areas include; Brakpan, Vosloorus, Katlehong, Spruitview, Davayton, Eden Park, Leondale, Wadeville, and Tembisa.

The City of Ekurhuleni has increased their operations and have called on off duty emergency workers to assist.

Donations of non-perishable foods and blankets can be dropped off at a temporary stall, created with the assistance of Red Cross, at the Primrose Fire Station, on 1 Pretoria Road, Germiston.

The Department of Social Development and Ekurhuleni have provided community members with counselling and social services.

Other organisations involved in relief efforts include; Food Bank SA and South African Security Agency.

Members of the public who can assist in the rebuilding process may contact the Disaster Management officials at the Etwatwa Fire Station on 011 999 6972.
