Making right choices through self-love

"They may have acted in ways that have caused harm to their communities, but now they pledge to replace crime with community building."

These are the words of Dumisile Fakudze, chairperson of Love Soar Learning Centre (LS Learning Centre), is a non-profit organisation based at the Music Academy of Gauteng, in Putfoinein.

The organisation was founded in 2011 and recently launched their I Am Love project.

This project aims to train and rehabilitate parolees and ex-offenders by creating job opportunities and social reintegration for them.

Fakudze said the project got its name from the pledge that participants will filter every decision through self-love.

“This intiative was born from years of working with inmates in the offender rehabilitation,” said Fakudze.

“When ex-offenders return to the community, there is a higher possibility that they will go back to crime..

“In the effort to stop re-offending, we decided to use this intervention to change the mindset of society about ex-offenders.”

LS Learning Centre renders programmes like business coaching, mentorship, counselling, entrepreneurial training and communication skills.
