Servicemen honoured on Remembrance Day

Every year members of the public, military and various organisations come together to commemorate Remembrance Day.

This year’s event was held on Sunday, November 8, at the Memorable Order of Tin Hats’ (Moth) Reveille Shellhole.

Remembrance Day is held worldwide, to pay tribute to former servicemen and women who died in the line of service of their countries.

It is held annually on the closest Sunday to November 11.

This year’s event was attended by close to 2 000 people, including military servicemen, fire and emergency services, ex-servicemen, Hells Angels members, voluntary organisations and the general public.

Moths dressed in their military attire and pinned medals on their chests.

The national flag was hoisted before proceedings began, and four ex-servicemen marched to the cenotaph to take up their positions.

A ceremony was held during which wreaths were placed at the cenotaph.

Trevor Thomas, past Old Bill Major, said he was thrilled by the number of people who attended the event.

He was also pleased with the social gathering that took place after the remembrance ceremony was held.
