Spurs crumble as wickets tumble

An under strength Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier XI suffered a comprehensive defeat at the hands of Kempton Park at Lords Cricket Grounds on Sunday, November 1.

Stand-in skipper Kyle Degambur won the toss and elected to bat, but a significantly weakened batting order, due to Easterns semi-professional call-ups and matric exams, was in trouble from the very first over.

The tone of the match was set when the hosts lost three wickets without troubling the scorers.

The home side’s fragile batting line-up offered little resistance against a Kempton Park bowling attack which looked sharp as wickets fell regularly.

Degambur’s men were bowled out for a mere 93 runs in the 33rd over.

Ahmed Mohammed (24) and Mekyle Pillay (16) were the only run-getters worth mentioning for ASCC.

Kempton Park’s batsmen stepped into the crease and would take no chances considering that they were in big trouble against Actonville when the teams met in the Eastern Premier League last season.

The 94-run target was easy pickings this time round despite the visitors losing three wickets.

Casey Arnold (34) and Carel Botha (26) were the top scorers in the chase as they ensured a bonus-point seven-wicket win.

Hussain Shakkel Ahmed, Kyle Landsberg and Ridwaan Daya each picked up a wicket in the bowling innings for the hosts.

The team will now be required to pick up the pieces and put in the hard graft ahead of this Sunday’s visit from Springs Old Boys.
