World titles aplenty for Benoni gym

Benoni-based gym United Martial Arts is celebrating, after eight of their members returned home from the WMO World Championships in Rugby, England, recently, with a total of 42 world titles between them.

A 33-member strong Team South Africa, led by chief instructor of the United Martial Arts Dojo Benoni and WMO South Africa president shihan Aslam Mahomed, brought back an overall 71 world titles from the championships and placed second among 18 countries.

The world champions from the Benoni dojo are Aslam Mahomed (nine world titles), Ahmad Mahomed (10 world titles), Mahmood Mahomed (six world titles), Taahirah Cajee (four world titles), Aakifah Akoodie (six world titles), Saood Razak (three world titles), Safwaan Razak (two world titles) and Jacques Bosch (team coach and two world titles).
