Eagles and birdies galore at the Lake

The Lake Club Benoni hosted the Ekurhuleni Open Strokeplay Championships from Friday, October 2, to Sunday, October 4.

Amateur players from all over the country took part in the four-round event.

The greens were quick and hard, running at 11 on the stimp meter.

The lowest score carded was a 63 on the Saturday, by Herman Loubser (KLF/KN).

The Lake course appeared to be too short for the amateur players, with many eagles and birdies over the four rounds, however, not all the golfers found it that easy going and 92 was carded by some unfortunate players, who couldn’t handle the difficulty level set out on the course.

The greens provided the truest test of difficulty for most.

Malcolm Mitchell, from Howick, in KwaZulu-Natal, eventually came out on top, with a total score of 280.

He was followed by Cameron Moralee on 284 and James du Preez on 285, in second and third places respectively.

The home club had five players taking part in the championship, with four making the final cut.

Mike Kok finished in 31st position as the top Lake Club Benoni player, while Rowan du Preez finished 46th, Nkosinathi Dauwa 51st, Kyle Opperman 54th and Chase Paton 155th.
