We need to return to normality

''Disgruntled'' of Hartley Street writes by email:

We are most grateful that Ekurhuleni Benoni have undertaken to do more than just fill the potholes on Pretoria Road. Bravo!

We now can look forward to concentrating on the act of driving rather than the art of avoiding the potholes as we head home.

But this is at a cost to residents living along the secondary road, where cars, buses, heavy duty vehicles and the like now have to be diverted.

Hartley Street has become a potholed road that is churned up through the continuous stream of vehicles all day and all night.

It has now become the norm to have our sensors set off at 3am in the morning, when a heavy articulated truck lumbers down the road and ploughs over the speed bump.

Can we look forward to some re-surfacing of our street when the diversion of traffic this way comes to an end?

I have tried to contact council, but no luck I’m afraid.

The numbers I’m given all ring and it seems the office workers are out all day.

I did send an email via the official Ekurhuleni website and was given a query reference number, but to who do I address the matter when no one answers the phone? Help.

We need normality to return to our beautiful suburb and for peace to be restored to the new highway down Hartley Street!
