Another attempt to invade land halted by EMPD

EMPD officers confiscated building material and halted attempts by Daveyton residents to once again illegally occupy land near Mayfield Square.

The incident took place on Friday, August 28.

According to EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago, the group’s efforts were halted by EMPD officers who flattened four shacks that had already been built.

“This action was taken as law enforcers’ pleas for the group to stop fell on deaf ears,” said Kgasago.

“The group chanted songs and verbally abused the officers as the shacks were being removed.”

In retaliation for the removal of the shacks, the group started spilling rubbish bins onto the streets and barricaded Kheswa and Mocke streets with burning tyres and rocks.

The group also terrorised motorists and threatened to burn a councillor’s house – but were stopped by EMPD officers.

“Mop up operations on the littered roads were conducted by EMS and the roads department, with EMPD officers lending a hand,” said Kgasago.
