‘The ball just wouldn’t go in’

The Old Bens Football Club first XI may have forgotten what their Currin Park home base looks like, as they played their third consecutive ELFA Super League away game, on Saturday, August 22.

On Saturday, the team squared up against Union in Turffontein and suffered their third away day loss – this time 1-0.

According to coach Raymond Cloete, his team probably played their best football of the season, but just could not find a goal on the day.

“The ball just wouldn’t go in for us,” said the coach.

“We hit the post, the back of their goalkeeper’s head, everywhere besides the back of the net.

“It was one of those days.

“It’s disappointing to get the loss, but the guys did play well.”

The Bens boys will be happy to return to their Benoni stomping ground on Saturday, August 29, when they host Alberton.

Kick-off is at 3.30pm.
