Sewage leak no longer an issue

The problem of sewage flowing from a manhole into the Korsman Bird Sanctuary, through a storm water drain, has now been fixed.

Jane Trembath, chairperson of the Korsman Conservancy, said frogs were at risk because of the toxins to which they would be exposed if the problem wasn’t solved.

The source of the leak was a manhole on the corner of Victoria Avenue and Edward Street, in Western Extension.

Clr Mary Goby and Trembath reported the issue to the municipality numerous times, from the beginning of July, but neither received any information about when the leak would be fixed.

Trembath said after the head of department visited the area with Goby, the sewage leak was fixed.

”I’m relieved that the problem has been fixed, but frustrated that it took so long to be fixed,” she added.

Trembath has not been able to assess the damage the sewage has caused to the pan, but hopes that such leaks will now be a thing of the past.
