Pilot pulled from wreckage after aircraft crash

A pilot sustained serious injuries when the light aircraft he was flying in crashed, yesterday (August 1).

The aircraft went down at the Petit Airfield around 5pm.

The pilot (46) was assessed by paramedics on arrival, after which he was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at Petit Airfield along with provincial fire and rescue and other services,” said Glen Orritt, ER24 JHB East spokesperson.

“The pilot of the light aircraft was taken out of the wreckage by bystanders and found (by paramedics) lying a few metres from the aircraft.”

Local authorities were on scene to investigate and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was notified.
