Armed robbery at liquor store

A man was robbed at 10.05am on July 5, at Jamba Liquor Wholesalers, at the corner of Mocke and Turton streets, in Daveyton.

Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Sgt Constance Moalusi said it is alleged that the victim was busy packing empty beer bottles when he was approached by four males.

“Two of the suspects were armed with firearms and knives,” said Moalusi.

“The man had a firearm pointed at him and the robbers searched him and took R1 000.

“The victim tried to grab one of the men and was then stabbed in his lower body.”

Community members caught two suspects and the other two men fled.

Both suspects were assaulted by the community before the police arrived.

They were first detained at the Daveyton Police Station, and were then taken to hospital.

Daveyton SAPS station commander, Col Nengal Chittiah, thanked the community for helping the police to fight crime, and advised people not to assault suspects before calling the police.

Daveyton police are investigating a case of armed robbery and suspects will appear in the Daveyton Magistrates Court soon.
