Lioness Club hands over cheques at end of ‘Lionistic’ year

The Benoryn Lioness Club handed over two cheques to charity, at their meeting on June 13.

A cheque of R10 000 was given to Laerskool Verkenner, to help with maintenance and upgrades at the school.

“This money will always be used wisely, thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart,” said Edward McCarter, Laerskool Verkenner principal.

McCarter added that the money will most likely be used for computers at the school, in order to upgrade the research capacity of the pupils.

The second cheque of R4 000 was given to the Salvation Army.

“Thank you very much, you’ve helped us a lot throughout the years, you don’t realise how much your help means to us,” said Captain Wendy Clack, Salvation Army Corps administrator.

Clack said the money will be used to equip the kitchen for a nearby crèche.

A third cheque, of R4 000 was to be handed over to East Rand Hospice, but their representatives could not attend.

These handouts represent the achievement of the Lioness Club over the past “Lionistic” year, which ended in June.

The collections were made through several fund-raising events organised by the club, their biggest being the selling of their Lioness Christmas cakes.

The meeting and handover took place at the Lions Club House, at 111 Howard Avenue, in the CBD.
