‘Huge interruption’ to taxi service in Benoni

Ferrying of taxi passengers in parts of Benoni is said to have returned to normal as the Benoni Taxi Association (BTA) quelled over a day's tension between two taxi operators.

Chairperson of the BTA, Jafta Ndlovu, said operators from Barcelona and Lakeside were unhappy with one another with resulted in a “huge interruption” of ferrying passengers.

He said the problem arose after the operators from Barcelona tried load passengers at taxi rank on Voortrekker Street.

As a result, the Barcelona operators disallowed the Lakeside operators from dropping off their passengers in Barcelona.

Ndlovu said they were dropped of around 5km from their intended destination.

He said the interruption of the transportation of passengers has resulted to normal.

Ndlovu said there was no violence between the two operators.

The BTA has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday (June 23) to iron out the problems between the two operators.
