Nothing bad to say about this café

The coffee-themed artwork against the wall seemed to make a cup of black gold look like the faintly remembered treasure of a lost generation, but the real thing far exceeded the fantasy when it arrived.

We visited a hidden little gem called Café Latte Coffee Shop and Tea Garden.

The décor immediately raised expectations about the quality of the food, but, once it arrived, euphoric enjoyment might be too weak a term.

After almost gulping down the heavenly cappuccino, I ordered the Café Latte Burger, a mouthwatering combination of a thick beef patty, bacon, egg, tomato and mushroom, topped with a delectable sauce.

My grandmother ordered the bacon and avocado tramezzini, which delivered more than it promised.

She told me how “lekker” it was and that she is definitely going to be seen there again.

As a side, the dishes both included potato chips, which are often tough to get right, but these were a culinary achievement.

With a thickness between French fries and “slap chips”, and perfectly seasoned, the chips made for the perfect side.

After the large meal I was so full I couldn’t even think of dessert, although those cakes were staring at me with a sweet glare.

The burger meal costs R60, while the tramezzini is R52, making it an affordable eating spot, with a quality that surpasses most.

To top it all off, co-owner Suzie Kypris’s friendly service made us feel at ease immediately, with my grandmother finding common ground with Suzie, making the mood as warm as the food.

The coffee shop, which has been open since December 6, last year, serves breakfast all day, burgers, toasted sandwiches, salads, cakes and hot beverages.

They have a Sunday lunch every week and even cater for functions.

Café Latte Coffee Shop and Tea Garden is situated at 261 Benoni Road (at the intersection with Estate Road), in Jatniel.
