Multiple car pile-up — 40 people involved in N12 accident

Sixteen cars and 40 people were involved in an accident on the N12 highway this morning (June 12) just after the Tom Jones Street on ramp west-bound.

ER24 JHB East spokesperson Glen Orritt said traffic is backed up to Putfontein Road.

“We arrived on scene and found that 16 vehicles were involved, including three minibus taxis,” said Orritt.

He said of the 40 people who were involved, 27 sustained minor injuries and one person sustained moderate injuries with a fractured leg.

The 28 injured persons were transported to various hospitals for care.

Orritt said the highway is closed and traffic is being diverted to Snake Road.
