Bunnies and goats might be eating plastic

The animals at the Bunny Park in Rynfield were recently seen eating food still wrapped in plastic.

On May 4, Wade Gietl, a concerned resident, saw the animals eating the plastic-wrapped food in the park and took several photographs.

“Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) management and the caretakers at the Bunny Park are not aware of the incident that occurred on May 4,” said EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

“The municipality strongly recommends that visitors to the Bunny Park should report incidents to the caretaker immediately on the day they occur.”

Gadebe said incidents that are reported too late are difficult to investigate, as there is no physical proof left.

EMM said a similar incident occurred in December, last year, but the staff members responsible for it have been reprimanded.

“The staff working at Bunny Park are well trained, but this incident occurred when the actual employees working at the park were away during the December holidays,” said Gietl.

“I feel irritated that the animals are being treated this way and felt sorry for them when I saw the plastic among their food.

“I hadn’t been in the park for some time and was disappointed by this incident.”
