Benoni-born bombshell is the new face of Maserati

Benoni-born model Genevieve Morton (28) is the talk of the town at the moment – and for good reason too.

Morton will represent Italian car maker, Maserati’s 2015 range, the company said on Monday.

“Morton would be in the luxurious car maker’s 2015 brochures and also be featured in a worldwide social media campaign,” said general manager of Maserati SA Glen Sealey in a statement.

“Genevieve will bring her two million Facebook fans, 108 000 Instagram followers and 57 000 Twitter followers to the Maserati social media campaign, joining Maserati’s four million people on Facebook, 361 000 on Instagram and 450 000 Twitter members.” Sealey said.

He said Morton had completed a major photo shoot for the car maker featuring its entire range.

The former Arbor Primary School pupil and Farrarmere resident is no stranger to the limelight having appeared on the front cover of numerous international swimwear magazines (including becoming the first South African to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated America) among other things.

City Times journalist Logan Green caught up with his old friend and now Los Angeles resident and posed a few questions about her life:

LG: Where are you in the world at the moment? What are you currently busy with?

GM: I am living and working out of Los Angeles. I moved here to study acting, which has been an amazing experience. I am thoroughly enjoying living here as there are so many creative opportunities and people who are doing some amazing work out here.

LG: You’ve recently become the face of Maserati, what does this mean to you?

GM: I am so happy to be the face of a brand like Maserati which embodies elegance and sophistication – the car is a fantastic drive too.

LG: What characteristics of Maseratis appeal to you?

GM: I love the luxurious feel of the car, but the sporty side of it appeals to my fun side. I think it’s a great balance of both.

LG: What are you expected to bring to the party as the face of Maserati (what is required from you)?

GM: The idea of the campaign is to appeal to successful women, so as a woman who loves her work I feel that it is a great fit for me. The opportunity to shoot in Italy was also unbelievable.

LG: You have been mingling with a lot of high profile/well-known people, which person were you most excited to have met on your travels?

GM: I get to meet a lot of interesting people living in Los Angeles, so I won’t drop any names, but I can say that the most interesting people are the ones who are thinking outside of the box and finding new ways to do things. It’s inspiring.

LG: What advice would you give to young girls who harbour dreams of becoming an international model?

GM: I would say to young girls that they have to realise that it’s not personal if someone doesn’t like the look you have, it just means you are not what they are looking for. It doesn’t mean that you are not right for something else. It’s not a personal attack on your character. Also, I would encourage all young girls to finish high school. I have seen so many girls leave school before they should and regret it later in life. You need it if you want to get a college degree in later years. Lastly, I would say that it is so important to just be young and enjoy being a child while you are in school, don’t give that up because you only get to hang out with your parents, go to matric dances and hangout with friends for a short time.

LG: When last were you in Benoni and South Africa?

GM: I haven’t been back to South Africa in a year and a half. I am hoping to come back towards the end of this year, and I am sure that will include spending some time with family friends in Benoni.
