See what is on offer at the Urban Maket

The market was initiated by friends, Ivonne Taylor, Heather Collin, Bernice Ivonovich and Janine Michel, who are striving to develop an event where associated businesses come together to create a unified “gypsy, romantic and quirky” atmosphere for patrons to enjoy.

“The aim is to eventually close off the street and have music, drum majorettes and jazz bands,” said Ivonne.

She emphasised that this is not a flea-market and they want to uphold the specific theme.

Bernice said people previously had to drive out to Sandton and its surroundings for this experience.

Heather added that they want to bring life back into Western Extension, through the market, so that people can enjoy themselves in their own community.

The market offers various art forms and foods.

It takes place on every last Sunday of the month, at Lemongrass, on 38 Russel Street, Western Extension, from 9am to 3pm.
