Back to school — back to reality

Margaret Lumley of Monarch Rentals writes by email:

The year 2015 is bringing with it the usual number of frauds. We are a property rental agency and, at this time of year, always experience the same problem.

We have schools calling us to confirm that a person who has provided “proof” of their residence is renting a certain property.

We check our system and – lo and behold – have no record of that person nor, often, of the property they claim to have rented via our agency.

It seems that some parents will go to any lengths, including blatant fraud, in an effort to gain admission to schools for which they are not zoned.

What example is this setting to their children?

This is an open invitation to all schools in the area, who are welcome to call us and verify any “proof” of residence that they are given that purports to come from our agency.
