Three metre tall sunflowers; the legacy of bunnies

Benoni CBD resident Lawrence Cohen is the proud gardener of tremendous sunflowers growing as tall as three metres high.

He said this is the result of bunny excrement, which he uses as fertiliser.

Cohen and his partner, who wished not be named, started rescuing bunnies about a year ago.

They started with two bunnies and eventually had nine.

Sadly they were obliged to get rid of the bunnies by the authorities of their residence in October.

A week before they had to take the bunnies to the Benoni SPCA they started planting the sunflowers and were astonished with extraordinary results.

The tallest sunflower is currently 3.2 metres tall.

This flower has not even grown a head yet, and is due to grow even taller.

Another one is two-and-a-half metres tall.

They feel that the sunflowers are a legacy that the bunnies have left by which they will be remembered.
