Mother and daughter sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for Balfour Avenue murder

A mother, her daughter and their woman relative were each sentenced to 10 years in prison in the Benoni Magistrates Court, last month.

This is after Regina Kesellepeng Toe (37), her daughter Daphney Toe (20) and their relative, Doreen Kgamelo, (47), were found guilty of killing Zanele Kula (25), on June 24, 2012.

“The four women were drinking at Regina’s boyfriend’s place on the night they killed Zanele,” said Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele.

She added that, when the four women left the place, Daphney accused Zanele of flirting with her boyfriend, who was also drinking with them.

“An argument ensued and then Regina and Doreen held Zanele and instructed Daphney to beat her up,” said Sekele.

However, Daphney produced a knife and stabbed Zanele in her upper body.

She died on the scene.

The case was successfully investigated by Benoni SAPS detective WO Patrick Khumalo.
