A course for domestic workers

Hirsch's Boksburg recently presented their monthly educational domestic workers' course to workers within the East Rand community.

The course is conducted by the public relations officer of Hirsch’s Boksburg, Brigitte Thysse.

Domestic workers were taken through an in-depth training session on the upkeep and maintenance of household appliances such as ovens, microwaves, televisions, fridges, freezers, various types of stoves and extractor fans, to name a few.

“We are always trying to find ways to give back to the community and it is very rewarding to run these educational domestic courses,” said Thysse.

The courses are free of charge and give any domestic worker the opportunity to learn and grow in their personal capacity.

“We acknowledge that appliances and electronics are becoming more and more complicated,” Thysse said.

“We host these sessions to give these women peace of mind when cleaning these appliances, as it can be quite intimidating at times.”

After the formalities of the two-hour long course, each domestic worker receives a certificate of completion to thank them and reward them for being proactive and taking the initiative to learn and grow.

“The smiles on their faces when they received their certificates is a moment I will never forget,” said Thysse.

“It gives you a great sense of achievement helping others where you can.”

The next course will be held on Thursday, October 23.
