Empty reservoir possibly to blame for water shortage

An empty water reservoir might be to blame for the water shortage in parts of Benoni.

Clr Stefanie Kruger, of ward 24, said she visited the Vlakfontein Reservoir and was told two different stories by Rand Water officials.

One of the workers told her the reservoir was eight per cent full, while another told her it was empty.

Kruger said an Ekurhuleni engineer told her it was four per cent full.

The councillor said she is investigating the matter which has affected parts of Crystal Park, Cloverdene and Fairleads.

Ekurhuleni told the City Times this morning that they should be able to shed light on the matter by noon, today.

The Rand Water spokesperson was not available for comment this morning.

More details will follow as soon as they become available.

  1. Good morning,

We as residents are Highly upset with the water supply. Not only is it a health risk, it is damaging to the plumbing in our residencies too. At who’s expense? Furthermore We are loyal rates and tax payers! Maybe we should stop paying these taxes and see where the Fat Lard councillors get their exhorbetant salaries from? NO SERVICE NO PAY should be the way forward. Not to mention all the potholes and deteriation of all infrastructure.

  2. On the previous readers comment a councillor do not work with the water, roads or electricity we are here to fight the battles of the resident and to make sure services are provided to the people, but more then asking questions no councillor can do officials are the ones acrually doing the job and they are the ones that needs to pay not councilors. Im the ward councillor in the affected ward and I have been working non stop to find answers and putting pressure on the officials to fix the problem. But more then that I can not do.

  3. I’d like to correct my previous statement and apologise to the Ward Councillor. I in fact directed the reply to the municipal officials.Counsillor Kruger please accept my apology, Thank You for your cooperation.

  4. So it is now Thursday and still no water.
What makes me angry is that they demand money for services but when we demand for basic things like water no one can assist with that. It is also shocking if you phone 5 different people they all have a different story.
