Support the Victus Christi boeremark and blood drive

Make a turn at the Boeremark, a trendy, monthly fund-raising market, which offers over 60 delightful stalls.

The market is held every last Saturday of the month, on the Reformed Church grounds on Miles Sharp Street, in aid of Victus Christi; a Christian non-profit organisation.

You can relax in the food court with live entertainment, while enjoying a selection of food and mesmerising treat stalls for the sweet tooth.

Professional baristas will prepare coffee, cappuccino or espresso from “coffee on the move”.

You can fill your basket with top grade vacuum-packed, farm-fresh meat, processed vegetables and fruit, cheese, biltong and droeëwors, before browsing the stalls, which range from garden décor, decoupage, wooden furniture, jewelry, variety arts, crafts, plants and herbs.

George Ross, the market coordinator, took over the market in March.

Ross said it has been a tough road, with funds lacking to market the event and finding exhibitors.

Also an ex-drug addict, he decided to take on the task of raising funds for Victus Christi, where he is involved full-time.

“Having over 60 stalls, it becomes a huge responsibility to uphold,” Ross said.

“The stallholders have to make money, otherwise you lose them, but every time God proved to be in control.”

He added that, with the previous market, there was a prediction for ice-cold weather, but it turned out to be a pleasant morning.

“Johannes”, a talented vocalist and instrumental duo have offered their servicing for free, to give back to the community.

Victus Christi currently supports two orphanages in Benoni, along with other families.

Other projects include work creation and skills training.

Ross said the need for food has grown to major proportions.

The South African National Blood Services (SANBS) will run a blood drive at this month’s market, on Saturday, September 27, from 8am to 2pm.

Supporting this fund-raiser can help to uplift a less privileged person.
