Lakeview Hospital maternity unit welcomes moms

Mothers-to-be in Benoni now have the newly introduced Lakeview Hospital’s maternity unit as an option to facilitate the birth of their children.

Thet grand opening celebration was held on Saturday, August 16.

The unit offers a private maternity unit, neo-natal ICU ward, paediatric ward and doctors’ consulting rooms.

Water-birth units and midwifes will also be available

CEO of the Ekurhuleni Captains of the Industry Forum Chris van Biljon praised the hospital for identifying the need for women’s healthcare.

“If we look at the hospital; this will be a place where babies will be born and memories will be made,” he said.

“Go tell your families and go tell your friends of this hospital.”

Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women, Susan Shabangu, said she felt humbled when she saw the hospital.

“What makes this different and unique is that we normally refer to a privately-owned hospital; this hospital belongs to a group of people with a dream,” said Shabangu.

Shabangu said the founders, Dr Ismail Haroon Mitha (managing director), Dr Mogie Lingham (theatre director), Dr Khaleel Ismail (IT director) and Dr Iftkaar Ebrahim (finance director), persevered through a series of challenges to accomplish the successful operating of the maternity unit.

“We are celebrating women’s right to give birth today,” she said, stressing that women’s health is a critical component towards human life.

“I wish I was still young so that I could have the privilege of sleeping in this hospital,” she added.

The hospital gates, situated at 1 Mowbray Avenue, in the CBD, are now officially open for those interested in having their children delivered here.
