Double delight for Benoni Rugby Club

Saturday, May 31, proved to be successful for Benoni Rugby Club, as their first and second teams both achieved convincing victories against East Rand Police on the Hoërskool Hans Moore grounds.

The first XV scored twice before half-time in their encounter, and the teams went into the break, at 15-15 with all to play for in the second half.

It was one-way traffic in the second period, and it seemed that Benoni’s game plan had come together.

They ran in another five tries before the referee blew his whistle to finish the game with a score of 51-22.

Winger Cheston Daniels had a good game and was named Man of the Match.

Try-scorers for Benoni were Quin van der Nest (three), Jacques Dorfling (two), Renier Fick and Ettienne van Staden.

Fly half Mornay Rossouw added three conversions and two penalties to the scoreboard.

Benoni’s second XI also had a good win, downing East Rand Police 34-3.

The seconds dominated their opposition for most of the match.

Rico Marz and fly half Raymond Nel each scored a brace of tries for Benoni, while Ruan du Plessis added another.

Nel also slotted four conversions and a penalty.

Du Plessis was named Man of the Match.

The club will play away from home, against Nigel, on Saturday, June 7, in what is expected to be a very tough encounter for the Benoni boys.
