News from the football field

The Old Bens Football Club's u-17 Eastern Premier League team secured a vital win over a very strong Germiston Football Club, on Sunday, May 4, to climb to the top of the table.

The teams squared off at Currin Park and it was vital that coaches Kenneth Watts’ and Mark Henderson’s team put a halt to the Germiston team brimming with confidence after scoring 27 goals in their first three games.

The Old Bens defence, however, had other ideas and put in a valiant shift to restrict their opposition in a match that ended at 2-1, in favour of the Benoni team.

Bens’ goals came from Carlos da Fonseca and Keagan Bailie.

The coaches thanked the supporters for their diehard support and praised the team for a strong display.

  • Meanwhile, another Benoni team, Benoni Cedars Football Club’s u-15 SAFA Ekurhuleni League team, cemented their status as table toppers in the league, with a 5-0 win over second placed Katlehong Stars Academy, on Saturday, May 3, at the Huntersfield Stadium, in Katlehong.
