Willowmoore gives towards babies in need

Willowmoore High School held a baby shower at their assembly on April 24 to hand over more than 400 bags filled with baby necessities and funds to iCare South Africa.

The collection of baby items was their latest project, led by their Interact club.

ICare South Africa is a non-profit organisation from Krugersdorp that gives new mothers, from disadvantaged backgrounds, baby bags with basic toiletries for them and their newborn babies.

An amount R13 000 was also donated to the organisation.

Gift of the Givers, whose representatives were also present, were given R10 000.

The school raised these funds through various internal projects and its pupil getting businesses involved to contribute to the project.

The Rotary Club of Benoni also collected some baby items.

Representatives from iCare South Africa, Gift of the Givers and Youintiate attended the festive occasion, with a proudly South African theme, with Willowmoore High.

Sharol Naidoo, life orientation teacher and Rotary Interact Club co-ordinator, said the aim of their projects is to encourage the children to give, rather than get consumed with what they have.

“It’s not how you were born — it’s not how you die, it’s about how you live; how you will be remembered at your funeral,” she emphasised.

“We can change our country, one story at a time.”
